Certified translation Turkish–German

Türkçe

Certified translations of Turkish documents for German authorities: the register extract Nüfus Kayıt Örneği, birth and marriage certificates, divorce judgments, certificates and transcripts. One question is worth asking before every order, because it saves money: does your document also exist as an international, multilingual extract? If not, court-sworn translators carry the extract over in full — register numbers, place details, stamps and marginal notes included.

Turkish is a source language here. We translate from Turkish into German and into English; you pick the target at checkout. We do not offer the reverse direction — for Turkish documents our catalogue carries these two targets only.

Nüfus Kayıt Örneği: the extract from the population register

The Turkish population register is kept by family, and the extract from it shows that: parents, spouse and children appear with dates and places of birth and register details in one table, along with the province, district and register volume. A single extract therefore often replaces several individual certificates. For the translation that means every column is carried over, including the administrative details that look unfamiliar in German. For foreign-language documents the Standesamt in Cologne records, in its checklist for registering a marriage concluded abroad, that a translation by someone publicly appointed or sworn in Germany is needed as well, and that document and translation are to be presented in the original.

Formül A: the international extract

Turkey also issues register extracts in international, multilingual form. For births the Turkish Consulate General in Cologne names the Uluslararası Doğum Kayıt Örneği, Formule-A for short, and points to the Nüfus administration, or the civil-registry office of the place of birth, to obtain it. Ask about it before ordering a translation — that is the route that saves you an order altogether.

Why a multilingual extract can save the translation

The Federal Foreign Office keeps the two directions apart, and the half that governs this page is the one about foreign documents for use in Germany. Under the heading „Mehrsprachige, internationale Urkunden (nach CIEC-Übereinkommen)“ it records: civil-status documents and certificates of no impediment to marriage issued by one of the contracting states to the pattern of the conventions of the International Commission on Civil Status (CIEC) are exempt from every formality in Germany. Turkey appears on the list printed there of contracting states to the Vienna CIEC convention of 8 September 1976 on the issue of multilingual extracts from civil-status registers. The Standesamt in Cologne adds the practical side in its checklist for registering a marriage concluded abroad: a translation is not necessary where you present an international document. Whether your procedure manages with one is decided by the office you are submitting to.

Divorce judgments from Turkey

Turkish divorces arrive as a judgment of a family court (Aile Mahkemesi), usually with a separate endorsement that it is final and sometimes with the agreement on custody and maintenance annexed. For submission to a German court, § 184 GVG applies: the language of the court is German. We carry the judgment over with its heading, operative part, reasons, case number and endorsements; whether the decision is recognised in Germany is for the competent court or state justice administration, not for the translation.

Certificates, diplomas and transcripts

Study, recognition of training and job applications call for the certificate of the qualification (Diploma) and the list of marks (Transkript), and for professional recognition also proof of examinations and employment. Under § 23(1) VwVfG the official language is German, and under subsection 2 the office may require a translation whose accuracy has been certified. In our catalogue you order the qualification as a Diploma / Educational Degree and the list of marks separately as a College Transcript.

Turkish letters and names

Turkish is written in Latin script, so transliteration by norm does not arise. The letters ç, ğ, ı, İ, ö, ş and ü stay in the translation as the document has them — Işık does not become Isik. The scan is what decides: where a dot over an i is lost or a cedilla disappears, a different name appears. Where your German ID differs from the document, give us both spellings.

Common questions

Does the Standesamt need a translation of my Nüfus Kayıt Örneği?
If you present it in Turkish, usually yes: under § 23(1) VwVfG the official language is German, and the Standesamt in Cologne requires a translation by someone publicly appointed or sworn in Germany for foreign-language documents. Present an international document instead and the translation can fall away.
What is Formül A?
The international, multilingual extract for a birth, issued by the Turkish Nüfus administration; the Turkish Consulate General in Cologne calls it Uluslararası Doğum Kayıt Örneği (Formule-A). Because it is pre-printed in several languages, it is worth asking the office you are submitting to: for registering a marriage concluded abroad, the Standesamt in Cologne records that a translation is not necessary where you present an international document.
My extract has several pages. Is that several orders?
No. One order covers one document, whatever its page count. Two different documents — a register extract and a divorce judgment, say — are two orders, each with its own certification.
I have a certified translation from Turkey. Is that enough?
For a German office, usually not: on the note of the Standesamt in Cologne the translator must be publicly appointed or sworn in Germany. Upload the Turkish original; we do not need the translation that came with it.
Do you also translate Turkish documents into English?
Yes. Turkish is a source language for translations into German and into English; you pick the target at checkout.
Are ğ, ş and ı preserved?
Yes. Names are not Germanised and not simplified. Watch the diacritics when you scan — they tell names apart, and a faint dot over an i can disappear in the copy.
What do you need from me?
A legible scan of every page, with stamps, barcode and reverse side. Where a name is spelled differently on your German ID, give us both spellings in the notes field.
